It is Christmas in 1899 and the Prime Minister, Robert Gascoyne-Cecil, is hosting a lavish party. Spirits are high at the turn of the century, commerce and politics are doing well. It is also 7 years since the infamous Jack the Ripper was last active. But is everyone who they say they are? And has the Ripper really finished his work?

It is 1941. Sarah MacDonald is joining the WRNS and is being posted overseas.  Today is her going away party and everyone is invited to come along and say goodbye to her. The Deal, a new game show, is being piloted this weekend. All the contestants, their friends and relatives have been invited to stay together at the hotel to get to know each other before the cameras roll the following day – the first mistake made by the production company. Its second mistake? Choosing to use the contestants for the game show rather than the great crime thriller that is set to unfold over the course of the evening.

You know the sort of thing:  The rumours of her affairs, her involvement with a prominent American Politician, Her Mafia connections, etcetera etcetera. She is hoping that the film will distract people from all that. But you can be sure that someone has a grudge to bear. But would they kill because of it?

You are invited to the annual "Spooks Ball" arranged by the Killinton Ghost Hunting Society. The society has been searching for evidence about the mysterious case of Martha Goodfellow for years, but has yet to find anything. Every year they have a big party where everyone gets the chance to dress up as their favourite monster, ghoul or demon! But this year someone may well end up as a ghost - for real.
